ALFORD MEDIA BUYS BAG END SPEAKERS
FOR AVID TECHNOLOGY’S NAB PRESENTATION

You won’t get much of an argument on this one: Every year, Avid Technology, Inc.’s presentation is one of the top attractions at the annual NAB show in Las Vegas. And that’s no accident.

Avid, an exhibitor at NAB and a recognized world leader in digital nonlinear media creation, management and distribution solutions, relies on the services of one of the leaders in show staging design and production, Technical Elements, Inc., of Summerfield, NC Technical Elements, has put punch into Avid’s presentation for the last five years, helping to create the atmosphere that generates the booth traffic that, in turn, generates sales leads.

“Each year we strive to provide the highest quality audio, video, lighting and technical support for all of Avid’s events at NAB,” said Jeff Pugrant, president of Technical Elements, Inc., “And this was the challenge we presented to Alford Media Services of Coppell, Texas, who provides audio & video support for Avid’s display.”

The main Avid booth at 2003 NAB show included three stages, with a capacity of 25 people each. Last March, Pugrant and Gary Scott of Alford Media Services attended the annual NSCA show in Dallas to evaluate a low profile, high energy loudspeaker for use with both recorded media and spoken voice within the loud environment of the NAB tradeshow floor.

“After evaluating all the manufacturers at NSCA and a number of other speakers used in the past, we were very impressed with impact, clarity, fidelity, and performance obtained from the BAG END TA-6000 loudspeakers without any outboard equalization,” Pugrant said. “These speakers when used with a single 18-inch subwoofer provided the necessary impact while playing recorded tracks and the required clarity and ‘vocal punch’ to carry the presenter’s voice over the high noise-floor of the tradeshow and the crowds watching the demos. Additionally, these boxes had the best performance for the size required by the theater design we planned at NAB and virtually ‘disappeared’ within the booth.”

The TA6000 is a Time-Aligned™ compact, speech range high-output loudspeaker system that offers both high fidelity and high efficiency. It is loaded with a pair of low frequency, 6.5-inch cones with 1.5 voice coils, and a high-frequency horn with a 1.8-inch titanium diaphragm. And because of its light weight - just 26 lbs. – it is highly portable. It’s trapezoidal dimensions measure only 22.5 inches high by 9 inches wide by 11 inches deep, with a 10-degree front-to-back taper per side.

Alford Media Services subsequently purchased 12 TA6000 loudspeaker systems, provided them as the “rental loudspeaker solution” for the specifications outlined by Technical Elements, Inc., for a low profile, high fidelity, ultra high performance reinforcement speaker for use in the tradeshow environment theater.

“We at Technical Elements, Inc., and Avid Technology were both very pleased with the budget and sonic performance from such a small box,” Pugrant said.

Perhaps the best endorsement of all: Alford Media Services purchased 12 additional TA6000s after the NAB show, giving it a total of 24 units in its inventory for ongoing corporate AV work.
