BASSIST MELVIN DAVIS ADDS NEW BAG END D10BX-D TO HIS RIG

Highly respected bassist Melvin Davis, who has been using BAG END Loudspeaker Systems cabinets for more than two years, has added BAG END's new, deeper double-10 D10BX-D bass cabinet to his personal rig.

Melvin really pushed BAG END engineers to develop a deeper version of its D10X-D enclosure, telling them at one point, "You build and I'll buy it." They did - and he did.

What separates the new D10BX-D from its sister speaker, the D10X-D, is the depth of the enclosure. The D10BX-D, is 18 inches deep - a full six inches deeper than the D10X-D. The extra depth of the box gives the D10BX-D an unprecedented richness and warmth of sound in what is still a rela-tively small, highly portable enclosure.

The D10BX-D is loaded with a pair of 10-inch cones: one E-10 low-frequency speaker and an E-10X low-frequency speaker teamed with a E-550 AX-HI high-frequency transducer and a CX-1 crossover. The high frequency unit contains a titanium diaphram to create a smoother high end.

Davis has never forgotten his reaction the first time he played through BAG END speakers. "They lifted me right off the ground," he said. "Those babies sing." So impressed was he that he purchased a BAG END rig, including an ELF-1 extended low frequency integrator and a pair of BAG END S18E-D loudspeaker systems, and has become an unabashed BAG END devotee.

Melvin has played with some of the greats, including Miles Davis, Don Cornelius, Chaka Khan, the Pointer Sisters, Lee Ritenour and Larry Carlton to name just a few. Some of his recording credits include "A Day in the Life" (GRP, 1995) and "Wes Bound" (GRP, 1992) with Ritenour, "Larry Carlton," (GRP, 1995) and Larry & Lee (GRP, 1994), "Woman I Am" with Chaka Khan (Warner Bros., 1991), "The Secret Place" with Patti Austin (GRP, 1993) and the Pointer Sisters "All Our Love" (A&M, 1986).
