BAG END ADDS OPAL-R, OPAL-I
TO ITS "GEM" HIGH-OUTPUT SERIES

BAG END Loudspeakers Systems has added two new additions to its very successful "Gem" series of Time-Aligned™ high-output loudspeaker systems.

OPAL-I ("I" for installation model) and OPAL-R ("R" for road model) are among the newest jewels in the collection. The OPAL is a two-way ported system loaded with a 12-inch high-efficiency, low-frequency cone driver and a highcompression driver with 3-inch diaphram and copper voice coil driving a custom-designed oval, high-frequency wave guide. The OPAL provides extraordinary high output and fidelity in a very compact enclosure.

"The OPAL is a modified version of our highly successful SAPPHIRE model," said Jim Wischmeyer, president of BAG END Loudspeakers Systems. "Internally the OPAL and SAPPHIRE are identical, but the OPAL has been designed specifically for installations that don't require the arraying flexibility of the SAPPHIRE."

"The multi-angle, wedge shape of the SAPPHIRE cabinet was designed to be flown in arrays of from two to seven cabinets," he said. "The OPAL features a trapezoid enclosure designed to be flown singularly or in arrays of up to six units.

The more straight-forward enclosure design has allowed BAG END to offer the OPAL for a suggested retail price of $1,980, approximately $200 less per unit than the SAPPHIRE.

"What we are offering sound designers, engineers and contractors in the OPAL is the same high-efficiency, highoutput quality of the SAPPHIRE at a lesser cost for installations that don't require the compound arraying angles the SAPPHIRE offers, Wischmeyer said.

All of the speaker systems in the "Gem" series are designed for maximum protection against the elements. The enclosures are constructed of 3/4-inch Finland birch plywood supported by internal bracing and finished in durable black, textured catalyzed urethane. The grille is powder-coated steel in an aluminum, extruded frame and married to the cabinet with a heavy-duty weather seal.

Other models in BAG END's "Gem" series in addition to the OPAL and SAPPHIRE include the CRYSTAL, containing two 12-inch high compression cone drivers, and the QUARTZ, loaded with four 18-inch ELF subwoofers.
